Enclosed are two sets of lists for review: 1. Monographs 1820 - 1945, and 2. Serials. The monographs list is subdivided into 8 subject categories, with entries arranged chronologically within each subject area. The serials list is subdivided into 5 separate sections. Also included for information purposes only (i.e. not for ranking) are lists of relevant materials already preserved.
Since it will not be possible to preserve all published works on New York agriculture and rural life in the course of this grant project, we are asking for your judgement on which titles should receive priority for preservation as part of this project. Consigning a title to second or third priority does not mean that it will never be preserved. Those titles not preserved in this project will, we expect, be preserved in future projects.
Using the ranking scheme below, please rank each title in terms of its relative importance for historical research compared with other titles within the same list. In the course of this project, we will attempt to preserve the top ranked titles on each of the subject lists.
If you do not find this ranking scheme workable, modify it as you wish or devise your own method of indicating priority for preservation. If you choose to diverge from this scheme, please briefly explicate your approach to assist us in using the results.
When you are unfamiliar with a title, please give your best judgement as to the relative importance of the title based on the subject, author, title, publisher, period, genre, etc.
